You did not read the subject of this post wrong; we are going to talk about how to fill out pdf forms using Adobe Reader for mac. Now don't think that Adobe has suddenly upped its game and made its pdf reader accessible to voice over after all of these years of ignoring us. Nothing has changed and the app is just as impossible with voice over as ever. ![]() However, I have figured out a way to use the app to fill out forms, as long as they are tagged. Now it is a little crude and funky, but I think it could be manageable. Before I go into the finer points let me just say that I just figured out what I'm about to talk about; if it is already common knowledge and I am simply slow I apologize. So the first thing you want to do after opening the app is to go into the menu bar, with vo m, go to the view menu, and then go to the very last sub menu in this section. This is the Read Out Loud submenu. Once in this menu turn on the Read Out Loud feature and keep in mind the few key strokes that are listed in this menu. After the Read Out Loud feature is turned on you should be able to hit command shift b to start reading the document. Warning getting the thing to start speaking has been the most tricky part of this process for me. Sometimes it seems to be shy at first. Try hitting the key strokes in the Read Out Loud submenu and anything els you can think of. From my experience once it starts talking it should behave as it is suppose to. Of course by this point you are saying, why would I want this silly self voicing app to read pdf's? Its true that it is a silly self voicing app and Adobe should be ashamed that they think that is a bandaid for total lack of voice over compatibility. As far as simply reading text this app might be ok for putting on in the back ground, but for the most part you should look somewhere els like skim for reading. However, filling out forms is a different story. If you are in a properly tagged pdf form you should be able to hit tab which will take the Read Out Loud focus to the next form element, just like in any other type of form. Wireless internet cards for mac. You will hear the tag for the element followed by the type of element, text field for example, and finally if there is any text in the field, or if the element has a status like checked or unchecked, the status will be read. Unfortunately I do not believe there is any way to receive typing feed back, which is a bummer, but you can move away from text fields with shift tab and then tab and Read Out Loud should read whatever you have typed. If you paid attention to what I was saying a moment ago about the status of elements being checked or unchecked you will notice that this process does work on some non text field elements; which, to the best of my knowledge is not the case for pdf pin, which is the only other option for filling out pdf's on the mac. WD Passport don't mount on Mac NikkiAngela Feb 8, 2015, 1:51 PM My WD hard drive don't show up on my macbook air, not even in disk utilities but shows up and works alright in my friend's macbook pro. My MacBook Pro won't recognize my WD External Hard Drive? I have a 2010 MacBook Pro running OS X and a WD 1.5TB Passport External Hard Drive. The drive is about 3 months old and is formatted for a Mac (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)). Is there a keyboard shortcut for autosum in excel on mac without summing numers. Thank you Paul-nz, but no, it doesn't show up under Disk Utility. I had a similar problem several months ago with a WD My Book that I was using as my Time Machine backup. It took it several hours to appear on my desktop, but finally did and I was able to copy off my files onto this new WD My Passport, then run Disk Utility on the My Book and now it is working just fine. I bought the My Passport to copy my files from the My Book. ![]() ![]() So all my work for several years is on this My Passport. Now I can't get the My Passport to mount even when I leave it connected to my computer overnight. I don't know how to access the files on this My Passport so I can back them up and reformat the drive. Historically, the problem has been that many USB-powered drives can't get enough power from a USB port after they begin to age. The Passport is bus-powered, getting all its power from a USB port. Not the best solution for a desktop computer. To get such a drive going again, you need one of two workabouts: 1) a powered USB hub (has its own power supply to make up the shortfall) that goes between the external drive and the computer. 2) use a 'Y' USB cable to get power from two USB ports simultaneously (such as ) Also, WD uses an odd proprietary formatting scheme that is of itself a problem area. WD makes very good bare drives but the enclosures into which they put them to make an external drive are not very good and not particually Mac-Friendly. The formatting makes them harder to use. Once you get the files you need off the external, consider erasing and reformating it to Mac Extended Journaled using Disk Utility. That often makes the drive more reliable without having to revert to USB hubs or special cables. It gets rid of the proprietary formatting that seem to contribute to the problems. I have three external drives. All have WD bare drives inside but none are in WD encosures. By far the best enclosures for Mac external drives are those from OWC: I have two of the desktop model shown and one of its portable version for my MacBook Pro. All three have given me superb service and zero problems. Jan 6, 2015 12:23 PM HI, I have a some what similar problem. I am afraid the drive is in big trouble. In the middle of copying files, I accidentally unplugged it. Now it WILL NOT MOUNT! The reason many people want to have a bootable is to create clean installs: that is, to install Lion on a freshly formatted hard drive that doesn't contain any previous OS. The other major reason to want a bootable Lion installer is for emergency booting. It's true that Lion creates a bootable that you can use for troubleshooting. Seagate backup plus 4tb portable external hard drive for mac usb 3.0. But the Recovery partition is only usable if your drive is in basic working order. If your drive has a corrupt partition table, or you've replaced the hard drive, then the Recovery partition is downright useless. • OS X Lion installer. • 8 GB USB flash drive. You can use a larger drive if you wish, but more important than the size of the flash drive is its speed. If you're buying a new flash drive just for Lion, I recommend buying one of the fastest available. While slow (read: inexpensive) flash drives will work fine, you'll find that both the time it takes to create the bootable flash copy of the OS X Lion installer and the time it takes to install Lion on a target drive, will be somewhat long. • Some free time. The creation time varies by the speed of the USB flash drive, but plan on 30 minutes to over an hour. ![]() ![]() • Insert the USB flash drive into your Mac's USB port. • Launch Disk Utility, located at /Applications/Utilities. • In the Disk Utility window, look for the flash drive in the list of attached devices. Look for the device name, which usually appears as the drive size followed by the manufacturer's name, such as 16 GB SanDisk Cruzer. Select the drive (not the, which may appear below the drive manufacturer's name), and click the Partition tab. • Use the Volume Scheme drop-down window to select 1 Partition. • Enter a name for the volume you're about to create. I prefer to use the name that Apple originally assigned to the Lion installer image that we'll copy in a later step, so I enter Mac OS X Install ESD as the volume's name. • Make sure the Format drop-down menu is set to Mac OS X Extended (Journaled). Making a Windows install disk isn't as simple as formatting a drive or copying ISO file to your USB drive on Windows and Mac OS X. You need to use a professional ISO Editor to write the ISO image to your USB instead of copying. • Click the Options button, select GUID as the Partition Table type, and click OK. • Click the Apply button. • Disk Utility will display a sheet asking if you're sure you want to partition your USB flash drive. Click Partition to continue. • Once Disk Utility finishes formatting and partitioning the USB flash drive, quit Disk Utility. • Open a Finder window and navigate to /Applications/. • Right-click on Install OS X Lion (this is the installer you downloaded from the Mac App Store), and select Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu. • Open the Contents folder. • Open the SharedSupport Folder. • Within the SharedSupport Folder is an image file called InstallESD.dmg. • Right-click the InstallESD.dmg file and select Copy from the pop-up menu. • Close the Finder window. • Right-click in a blank area of the desktop, and select Paste Item from the pop-up menu.
